Organic Farming
What is organic farming?
- Organic farming is the act of avoiding synthetic chemical fertilizer in the agricultural field, in order to avoid the deterioration of soil fertility as well the soil productive capacity and application of organic manure and bio fertilizers to enhance the crop's growth quality and soil health.
Why organic farming?
- Green revolution (1965) marked the way for the growth of agriculture sector in India in order to meet the national food security by introduction of synthetic chemical fertilizer to enhance the yield of the crop which by then became the most adoptive method in order to increase the crop yield by the Indian farmers by which they slowly started eliminating the traditional organic method of farming as the productivity highly differ from the newly adopted chemical method of farming. This method continued for more than a decade and also became a productive hand in order to meet the national food security but the problem arises when the agricultural land started becoming unproductive by high use of synthetic fertilizers by the farmers" the boon s became bane". it is so because they applied higher dose of fertilizer than the recommended dose in order to gain higher economical yield.
- Deterioration of agricultural land ,less soil fertility ,decreasing food quality again paved the way for starting of "organic farming" in India but by then the question of food security arises as the produce from the organic farming were rich in quality but the fail to meet the food demand of our country as the rise in population by then became the most important factor so the term integrated farming came into the act, which is the judiciary use of organic and inorganic fertilizer in growing of crops.
Objectives of organic farming:
- improve the soil
productivity and fertility
- maintaining genetic
diversity and ecological balance.
- enhancing the quality of
produce
Types of organic farming
Use of organic manure :- It is mainly of two
types
1: concentrated organic manure
. Bone
meal
. Blood
meal
. Oil cakes
. Fish meal
2:
Bulky organic manure
. Farm
yard manure
. Vermicompost
. Poultry manure
. Green manure
3: Bio fertilizer
. PSB
. Azotobacter
. Rhizobium
. BGA (BlueGreenAlgae)
. Azospirillum
Constraints:
- "Organic farming alone
cannot feed the nation."
- Bio fertilizers were not
easily available.
- Proper training needed to
provided to farmers about organic farming.
- Commercial farmers’ involvement
is minimum.
